Travelling along the coast of Finland

This trip has been unusual in that I had never heard of some of the ports. Lulea in Sweden, Oulu in Finland and Pori in Finland where we are heading to now. Initially I thought well what is there here and then realise that these towns and cities offer a unique look at real life in these countries, which have made then special and rewarding, Art in galleries, local beers, markets all amazing. Lapland in summer a totally different experience. Cruising enables a traveller to do this plus it’s not every day you journey with the man who designed the Brothers in Arms album sleeve or Mick Jaggers cousin or a quartet of opera singers and a truly wonderful Adele tribute plus an amazingly funny magician comedian.

The journey continues………

Amazing net size

So after some silence I am back from travelling the North Atlantic with Holland America Line. Settled in my new home and very the space is slowly taking shape.

Travel also gives you some time to think and realise that there is still long way to go, even though I am heading in a very positive direction. Plans afoot and friends so valuable. Really getting down to sorting out the wheat from the chaff, some disappoint and some surprise, in the end they all show their true colours.

Don't Pee Net

Maybe the person who put up this sign had just had enough, seems manners and common sense are in short supply just about everywhere. Travelling on the Blackpool Transport tram with the Irish Sea on one side and the sea front apartments and very varied hotels on the other always has its merits, and of course look at life that is Blackpool.

Looking forward to Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland soon, seeing places I’ve never heard of. Christmas fairs and shows booking up every day.

It’s a Gallery is looking great and has had a brilliant response from the visitors all very positive.

Rockfactoryprintstudio news

Sunday morning and printing, it’s a cold studio day but the project must be at a certain point today.

Messages this week from my friend in Moscow, Holland America Line and had an uplifting conversation with my rock star friend of many years plus my appointment is almost there with the most exciting photographer on my planet. I am on the edge of the cold bug that is going around and it is a bug just keeping it at bay, difficult with Type 1 but let’s get on with it.

The Grundy open was launched yesterday and what am amazing standard of work a real tribute to the Independents that are on the rise.

There seems to be something to do every day, maybe that’s how it is supposed to be, s it really only January, I have projects now booked in up to the end of April.

The journey continues.

At last time to blog

Well here we go and just into 2109 and so busy, full day tomorrow which is 11th Jan and then full on until Berlin early Feb, so many projects on but maybe that’s good to be in that position. Very worried about Brexit. December was great with travelling from Rome to Ft Lauderdale on a brand new ship for Holland America Line, such a great crew and all the HAL people so efficient and warm, just what you need on the Atlantic Ocean. Nine talks and two Q & A, enjoyed every minute.

Nice print opportunities this year and after March looking at everything, so if you want a course let me know. Looking forward to an exciting year and of course continuing to enjoy Arrested ReDevelopment which now has legs so essentially good times ahead.shades car 12

A really cool Charity Art Auction in March look out for that one, bargains to be had by supporting Local Artists.

April Showers

scan 6Going through some old 35mm slides and discover Images from 2000 Tour De France, Thanks to Kate for scanning. I feel that the oasis that is my studio is becoming more important by the day, having had a week away enjoying time with Rowena and Scarlett has been tiring but rewarding at the same time, then the infection hits and blasts our throats to sandpaper. All stuff cancelled. So images it is then.

Thinking of news that infuriates me again no real hard evidence, but certain countries need a war, Why?.

Interesting to be back in an audio studio recently working on my lectures and after dinner talks using my exclusive interview clips and stories of the famous. Screen printing the 100 that I am aiming for is coming along nicely. I am actually pleased with my skills at the moment, never thought I would say that.Vintage Overlay 1

This piece has 10 colours and is 75 x 55 nice size, edition of only 5.

Baltic 2

One of my favourite prints from an image that just seemed to work, 1939 a year to remember and the beauty of the tree, maybe a message in there somewhere.

Keep safe and well in these troubled times.

Sunday thoughts

Just considering things, and enjoying printing daily and becoming more cellular, not sure why but there are rewards for sure. I was hoping to revisit my friends in Moscow in December as I enjoyed their company and creativity so much, but on hold for the moment. I will however be in Lisbon again and hopefully spending days printing and being inspired by my friends in the city, such a lovely atmosphere.

In the meantime I am looking at developing the prints on brown paper and they are all 70cm x 55cm and are three different images, I am really pleased the way they have turned out, I am posting images this week. Loved The Old Bird, The Whiskers and the Percussionists pics at The Grundy. The sun is out and i want to be outside but must crack on.prohiboExciting times ahead and travelling again in 2018.. hopefully…

Its been an interesting year so far, lets hope it continues….Card Print

March

ChuckleAlways good to start with a smile and a memory of The Baltic. So far this year been creating prints as I discovered I have images ready to go for over 50 different prints of varying styles and sizes and together with commissions its getting busy and fun. Plans are in place for a return to Lisbon later in the year and depending on the politics a return trip to Moscow, always nice to be invited back. Amazing when I re visit my interviews I realise there are a lot and am very proud of the variation and quality.. maybe I was OK on the wireless. As the weather may get better I can spend more time outside and as you get a little older it becomes more important every day.

Torn and FrayedI must admit I have projects in mind but as always funding is tricky and highly political and having looked at funding options I realise its is still so corrupt…

Looks back to crowdfunding for my most ambitious trip ever…. but great learning for me and new skills, some serious traveling though and a very special print in exchange.. watch this space.

Saturday thoughts

FUY meter

Checking out viewing and discover music programmes and its only when I see the bands that I realise that I either met, saw play live, or hammered their tunes on the wireless. I also realise where my thoughts and ideas started and now come to be part of what I am, what I do and what made me. My first Music Festival was the Bath Music Festival in 1970 and I was 20 years old, such an adventure but it was something I had to do, I do remember Canned Heat and Led Zep. plus a few more getting dropped off from a coach, sleeping in Cow Sheds, and travelling on a packed train back to London. It was all about the music for me and amazingly no drugs. I find thought and reflection inspiring.

Last night I have a few beers with a man I have huge respect for and has a wicked sense of humour, it’s been too long. Today I have looked after a horse as my best friend is poorly, spent some time with two of the nicest people in the world, David and Lesley and am knackered but now it’s ‘Spiral’ so all good. I am very happy with projects and my work for 2018 and really enjoying ‘Gone Fishing’, only my real friends will understand that!

I never really understood the phrase ‘in a real good place’, I do now so why has it taken so long?
